Don't take Paxil!!! It will make you gain weight like you wouldn't believe-I gained 70 lbs on Paxil in a year. You are hungry all the time & crave sweets like crazy. If you do decide to take meds, I'm on a combination of Wellbutrin & Lexapro & it really seems to be working for me. W/O meds, try some relaxation techniques. My shrink had me try meditation, visualization, & deep breathing. The techniques seemed to help some, but I really do recommend meds as well.
References :
Diagnosed with GAD & PTSD

try setting down in the evening and writing down a plan of procedure for the next day and check the plan as soon as you wake up in the morning take the plan with you and try to fallow the plan as close as you can and see if that gives you more of a feeling of control and a little more confidence in yourself.
References :
Panic attacks are very real and scary...Go to a place where you feel safe...and shut off all stimuli. If these panic attacks are ruining your life ...Medication and counseling could put you on the path to a panic free life.
References :
I also have panic attacks. Like you - No control when it starts or ends. Very Scary. I do not want to take medication either. I did take Paxil 20 mg daily for 6 years because I could not control the attacks. My doctor prescribed Paxil because it would not make me as nervous as some other treatments and I was definitely nervous enough. I had side effects from Paxil for the first month or six weeks. (Nauses, dry mouth, very sleepy...) However, the side effects did pass and I felt recovered from the panic attacks. Still had one every now and then but just took Xanax .5mg when one would happen and then it would pass. After 6 years of taking Paxil, I weaned off the medication without any problems. I wanted to see if I could be okay without any medication. I have been off Paxil for 1 year. I am having panic attacks again. I went to the Dr. and he thinks EffexorXR would be a good treatment. I am looking at the samples right now. I know I should take the medication but hate thinking about side effects. I don't want to take this medication either but I want to get well. I think part of the illness of anxiety and panic is to be scared to take the medication. I wish there was a way to be healed without medication. I just stopped and prayed and asked God for the answer. I will probably take the medication but I do not want to.
