Can panic attack symptoms last for days?

Hey everyone,
So, I’ve been having what I think may be panic attacks recently. I’ve had them in the past, but these symptoms I’ve been having lately, are very different. For a while, I was having chest pains and At night, sometimes I get these attacks and I have difficulty breathing and this sort of wave of panic comes over me. At first, I thought I was having a heart attack, so I freaked out and the next day went to the hospital, but after they did an ECG, tested my oxygen intake and did a chest x-ray, they said everything looked not just fine, but above average. Lately, though, I’ve been feeling really spaced out, faint and a little dizzy and this symptom isn’t going away. Its been around for a couple of days now and there isn’t much that makes this sensation stop. I feel disconnected, almost dream-like to what’s around me, like I’ve just woken up. Is this a symptom of panic attacks and is it normal for this disconnectedness to go on for a few days?
Anyone who’s experienced this or has some clues, your help is much appreciated.

Oh, also, I have been to the Hospital about 4 times regarding this because nothing’s changed and I keep worrying that its something serious, but every time I go, different doctors do the same tests (ECG, oxygen intake) but all say basically the same thing: my heart’s fine, my lungs are fine, and they say its in my head, but these physical symptoms don’t go away…

It sounds like you may have sugar problems. Diabetes or hypoglycemia or allergies or have taken in something with MSG which is often in chinese food even when they tell you it is not. I stopped eating chinese food cause of this but look up what foods have this in it. You need to make sure you are drinking plenty of water & taking care of yourself & get some kind of spiritual support. Read You Can Heal Your Life by Louise Hay & watch the DVD your local library has it. The hospitals are a business & people are brainwashed to trust in them. If a person breaks a leg or needs stitchs go to a hospital but for everything else take control of yourself. If you can get a calcium supplement it will calm you down. Hopefully, it is just a bad time for you hormonally & you will be fine soon but you don’t want it to happen like this every month so you need to get someone to coach you on improving your health.

unfortunately it can go on for months if not treated properly. I understand all your symptoms and have experienced this. I suffered from panic disorder that lasted for months and it lead to severe depression. Luckily I had a good doctor who came to see me at my house- he prescribed anti-depressants and anti-anxiety meds which meant that after a few weeks i felt well enough to leave the house and see a psychologist. I received cognitive behavioral therapy and it was such a help. It helped me understand why i was having these physical symptoms even though my body was healthy and it meant that i could get my life back on track and after another few months i no longer had panic attacks and was like a new woman! I still have minor relapses but now have the "tools" to cope with them.

Please see your doc for a referral and hopefully you will be as good as new in no time!

You should go to your family doctor, emergency room doctors only deal with emergencies.

I have been having panic attacks since I was 18 years old. I am now 49. The very first time I had one it scared the hell out of me. I thought I was going crazy. The panic attack will only hang around and keep happening if you keep testing yourself to see if your still going through a panic attack. Does that make since to you?? Some panic attacks happen when your thinking about something or some memory of something deep seeding has surfaced for a moment. You may not realize what it was that crossed your mine. Panic attacks also happen for some people when the do things that scare them like crossing over a bridge, elevators, heights etc. And yes, you do feel like your in a dream state or disconnected like you described. It is a lonely feeling and trying to explain how you feel to others makes you feel like they may think your going crazy. I am not a doctor by no means. I have been to social workers and psychologist and they helped me. They can help you figure out what causes your panic attacks. Most of all praying has helped me. The panic attacks have never stopped me from doing the things I like to do. Yes they happen and they bring me down a little but I muscle through those times because I know they will pass. I hope I was of some help.

Is Any Of This Experience Familiar To You?

    * Maybe you found yourself in the hospital’s ER because you thought you were having a heart attack only to be told later it was anxiety?
    * Do you ever fear you might stop breathing because your chest feels tight and your breathing erratic?
    * When you drive do you fear the idea of getting stuck in traffic, on a bridge or at red lights?
    * Do you ever feel nervous and afraid you might lose control or go insane?
    * Have you struggled with anxious thoughts that will not stop?
    * Do you ever feel uncomfortable in enclosed spaces such as supermarkets, cinemas, public transport or even sitting at the hair dressers?
    * Are you nervous and on edge in normal situations that never bothered you before?

    End Anxiety And Panic Attacks.
