Panic Disorder
Panic Disorder
This disorder is marked by the presence of repeated panic attacks: sudden feelings of terror that appear with physical symptoms like rapid heartbeat, sweating, palpitations, shortness of breath as if suffocating, dizzy or light-headedness, numbness or tingling in the extremities, nausea, and visual distortions.
During these attacks sufferers often fear they will have a heart attack, faint, lose control, go crazy, or even die. The attacks begin to subside within 10 minutes but anxiety usually persists longer.
Some of the attacks appear “out of the blue” which leads to a generalized fear of more attacks, but some situations may reliably trigger the attacks.
Over time, people often begin to avoid the situations where they have experienced previous attacks. This can develop into Agoraphobia, an avoidance of situations from which escape may be difficult.
As this disorder grows it can become severely disabling often limiting people’s abilities to travel or even leave their homes.
The good news is that panic disorder is highly treatable. With medications, cognitive behavioral therapy, or both, the sufferer is soon on the way to recovery.

I feel for ya man. …
I feel for ya man. I have been dealing with this for about 2 years now. Been through the gamut with my doctors for all the symptoms before I knew what was really going on. I’m on meds for it but they really dont help all the time. Best thing for me is to avoid stress - but that can be kinda hard in this day and age. Glad to see another guy basically the same age as me with this. Best wishes on sorting it out.

I had panic attacks …
I had panic attacks for years until I knew what it was. Once I learned the secret of how to get rid of them I suffered incredible spells of panic. Niether is taking medication. Some panic is chemical (seratonin deficiency) and sometimes its caused by periods of great stress. Either way drugs are no answer…trust me, they just feed into the fear. PANIC is the fear of losing control just like any other phobia. Fear of having an attack will usually bring on another….cont.

I’ve lost 30 pounds …
I’ve lost 30 pounds in three weeks because of anxiety. That was a month ago. I’m down another five pounds. I’m scared all the time. I get panic attacks all the time.
One second I’m a happy teenager and the next I’m tugging my hair trying not to scream and cry. And weirder even is that things that SHOULD set off anxiety attacks, sometimes don’t. So It’s very confusing.
Argh….

I am so sorry.
I understand what you went through, however…
I have the worst anxiety attacks starting in March this year. I’m only 14…
My psychiatrist told me that I was just a typical teenager and that I was just trying to get attention…
But I know that something is wrong. I didn’t even want to tell anyone, so how can my anxiety, which physically hurts me, be because I want attention???
Ugh… I don’t know what to do. I guess I should just stick it out. But it’s scary and it hurts.

Had horrible panic attacks and ongoing anxiety starting at 15, in 1976. The doctor ended up telling my parents to ignore me, that I just wanted attention. The psychiatrist I saw started laughing as I was trying to tell him what was happening to me.

I used to have a really bad panic/anxiety disorder and it really knocked me on my . I seriously thought I was going to die every night I went to bed (and didn’t sleep.) A few things that have really helped are SSRIs, benzodiazapems (not for too long though), and The Linden Method. I’ve been anti-drug, anti-drug company, and a naturalist my whole life… Its humbling to have the stuff I talked about save my life.
