How can I stop panic attacks?
I have been having really bad panic attacks lately and it seems like they have been occurring all of the time and I do not feel like myself. What can I do to get rid of them? Any help would be appreciated because I have been feeling awful lately. BTW I have visited the doctor and was prescribed xanax and vistaril.

the meds help, but won’t fix the problem, for that you need to learn good coping skills, and there are mental health classes that will teach you those skills, suggest you invest in one.

Medication, breathing techniques and cognitive behaviral therapy aka changing your thinking to change your beahviors..remmeber panic attacks are physiological responses to psychological stimuli….reinterpret the stimuli for a changed response….make the unexplainable, explainable….

I take Xanax and it really helps me, it’s the only thing that can stop an attack for me, I’m also speaking to a counselor

Besides taking prescriptions, you can also do things like lowering your stress level by eliminating things from your life. Another good solution is to exercise. It may sound strange, but exercising releases some kind of hormones into your brain that make you happier and lower your anxiety levels. Another good technique is to do muscle relaxation excersizes in bed (tense up all of your muscles at once and then release, and repeat). What have you been having panic attacks about? I used to have them about eating in public…and the best thing to do about it is to force yourself to do what freaks you out (ie eating in public). I hope this helps.

Well, I have panic attacks when i think about one of my worst fears, i guess you can call it that but yeah.
I get so into thinking about it that i can feel a panic attack coming, and i used to not be able to do anything about it
However, i found one technic that helped me personally.
I would take deep breathes, and try to distract myself. I would try any way, every way to distract myself. i.e thinking about something else, pushing the thoughts and the panic away. Think about good things, not other bad things.
It helped me.. i hope i helped a little bit

Ways to help stop the panic attacks when they hit is first to find somewhere to sit…even if you have to sit on the floor…I have to do this because I get very dizzy. Breath deeply and hold your breath for a few seconds…release through your mouth. Remind yourself that you are fine and everything is going to be ok. If you are safe from falling or being hurt by others…you can try doing a little relaxation meditation to help calm your body.
You can’t really just make them go away…but you can learn what causes them and learn how to handle the triggers. See a therapist and see about learning the skills to help with this. Sometimes they eventually disappear but that can take ages..
So anyway…good luck

The best advise I can give you is when you feel anxious or one coming on - (and I know this is going to sound crazy) but challenge it - tell your self "bring it on!" I bought a program that taught me that panic is something that we bring on our self and the more you fear them - the worse they are cuz panic feeds off of fear. Your body goes Thru the exact same emotions when your having an attack as it does when you are on a roller coaster - so next time throw your hands up and say "lets do this - show me what you got!!!" I know it sounds hard but just try it. After I started to do that they went away for me right away. It’s like once your body realizes there isn’t anything to worry about you just stop. Plain and simple. There is nothing NOTHING about a panic attack that will hurt you so dont be scared, take control and try to stay away from the vistaril - you dont need it trust me. (Keep the xanax just in case but dont take it unless you REALLY need to) it takes practice but you can do this. Good Luck!!!!
